Summary

HistoryForge is designed to collect as little personal information as possible. We don't require an account, email, or any personal info to play scenarios. Scenario progress and decisions are stored locally on your device. We use anonymized analytics to understand how the app is used in aggregate.

1. What information do we collect?

Local-only data

The following stays on your device and is never transmitted to our servers:

  • Your scenario progress and decision history
  • Audio mute preference and any other in-app settings

Anonymized usage data

We automatically collect aggregated, anonymized data about app usage:

  • Device type and operating system version
  • Which scenarios are played and completed (aggregate, not tied to identity)
  • Crash logs and performance metrics

Waitlist email (optional)

If you sign up for the launch waitlist, we collect your email address through a third-party email service provider. We use it only to notify you when the app launches and for occasional product updates you can unsubscribe from at any time.

2. How do we use information?

  • Operate, maintain, and improve the app
  • Notify waitlist subscribers about the app launch
  • Diagnose crashes and performance issues
  • Understand which scenarios resonate so we can build more of them

3. Who do we share information with?

We do not sell personal information. We share data only with service providers who are contractually obligated to protect it, including:

  • Email delivery providers — for waitlist signups and product update emails
  • Analytics providers — anonymized usage data only (no personal identifiers)
  • Apple — through standard App Store distribution and TestFlight

4. How long do we keep information?

  • Scenario progress: Stored locally on your device until you delete the app
  • Waitlist email: Kept until you unsubscribe or request deletion
  • Anonymized usage data: Retained in aggregate; cannot be linked back to individual users

5. Security

We protect information through industry-standard practices: HTTPS/TLS for all data in transit, secure storage with our service providers, and minimal data collection to begin with.

6. Children

HistoryForge contains depictions of historical events including warfare, plague, and religious conflict. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. The app is rated for users 13 and older.

7. Your rights

You have the right to:

  • Know what data we have about you
  • Request deletion of your waitlist email at any time
  • Delete all local data by deleting the app from your device or clearing site data in your browser
